What is the age range for your walks?
We are a young walkers group which means 20s and 30s according to the RA, but we're open to anyone who's young at heart! Unfortunately for legal liability reasons, you have to be over 18 to come along.
Do I need to be a member to walk?
New arrivals are welcome to do a couple of walks before joining the Ramblers just to see it they enjoy it. If you get hooked and continue to come along, we would ask you to join to support us and the good work of the Ramblers - it's really a bargain!
Where does the walk start? The program is pretty vague!
For security reasons, we keep the exact location of the start within the group, but if you e-mail us we can supply more details. When you join, you will be able to access the detailed program on this site.
Will I be able to keep up?
Our walks are taken at a gentle pace - usually slower than the normal Ramblers. We will walk between 5 and 10 miles, usually at about 2 miles per hour.
Do I need to bring food & drink?
We usually stop for breaks along the way to admire the views, so a snack will never be wasted. Drinks are always a good idea and are essential on hot summer days. Walks that are 6 miles or less will generally finish by lunch time and if they don't finish directly at a pub, we'll usually drive to one! Longer walks will continue until mid afternoon, so a snack lunch will be necessary.
What footwear and clothing do I need?
Paths on the island are generally very good, but can obviously get muddy, particularly in the winter. A strong (preferably waterproof) pair of boots are usually advisable. Waterproofs are usually advisable if only to guarantee it won't rain.
Can I bring my dog along?
Dogs are generally welcome on our walks, and are allowed off the lead where appropriate provided they are under control. This is at leader discretion if it is considered inappropriate for the walk.
Why are all the walks on Sunday?
Well, not all the walks are on Sunday, just most of them! Generally our group members find Sunday an easier day to keep free, but we do occasional walks on Saturday and some mid-week evening strolls in summer.
