walk from Firestone Copse an was much luckier with the weather this time (flippers not required!).
4/9/07 - Tracey led a fine evening walk which was criminally ignored by all but 3 walkers! Along the coastal path and past the lighthouse, then a scramble up the cliff.

guided us from above Blackgang along the coastal path to Isle of Wight Pearl

short walk from Newport Quay Arts centre along the Medina to the Folly for a quick drink, then retracing back to town

15/4/07 - Will it rain? No it won't! A glorious sunny and very hot day greeted us for a
walk from Godshill through valleys and over Downs.

2/9/06 - Seven hardy souls made the trip to the Purbecks for a very wet and windy
walk with the mainland WWW and DYW groups.

long two day walk from Ryde, right around the coastal path to Freshwater Bay.
17/8/06 - Added some
posters to advertise the group. Feel free to print them and put them up somewhere!
6/8/06 - Tracey lead a mystery
walk around Shanklin. The mystery has now been partly lifted as Tracey has done a write up!
22/7/06 - A Big Day Out to Rowlands Castle for a
walk around the Idsworth estate via Chalton, St Huberts and Stansted House.
8/7/06 - Dave & Hilary lead a well attended
walk (at least by the mainlanders!) from Yarmouth to the Needles with fine views for a change!
25/6/06 - A warm and pleasant day was enjoyed by 17 of us as we
walked around Shalfleet, Wellow and Hamstead.
14/6/06 - Alison led Spencer's walk from Shanklin around the Downs and back for a evening meal.
4/6/06 - A hot and sunny day for a walk from Mottistone lead by Gary passing the Manor and Longstone.
31/5/06 - A group went for a walk around St. Catherine's lighthouse.
24/5/06 - Gary turned up to lead on a very damp evening but luckily no-one else did so he went home again!
7/5/06 - A mostly sunny
walk from Ryde to Firestone Copse, with an afternoon stop for tea and cakes at Quarr Abbey.
26/4/06 - A small band met at the Ryde Tandoori for a very pleasant meal and chat. Plenty of food and a lovely big table to spread it out onto!
23/4/06 - A better turnout than our last Carisbrooke start for a
St. George's Day walk over the twin peaks of Bowcombe and Chillerton Downs. The weather kept away to make for a very pleasant day in the country.

newsletter - read it while it's hot before they've even been printed!
2/4/06 - Our
spring flower walk was a great success (despite the limited spring flowers) with 20 people walking from Shanklin to Godshill and back.
11/3/06 - An unexpectly dry day for a lovely
walk from Carisbrooke to Shorwell and back. A small but happy band enjoyed the walk and a pleasant lunch in the Crown.

Minutes of the AGM are now available, and there have been a couple of refinements to the
program.
28/2/06 - The second Wight Sole AGM was held at the Bargeman's Rest in Newport. Gary was re-elected as Chairman, and Dave as Treasurer. Minutes of the meeting will be available on this site soon.
19/2/06 - A pretty damp
walk from Godshill, up the downs and quickly back again. We decided discretion was the better part of valour given the inclement conditions!
11/2/06 - Updated the
program on the web site. Also changed all the maps to avoid copyright issues and included
GPS route files for the eternally curious (or lost)
6/2/06 - Comittee meeting in the Castle in Newport. Filled in the summer program including a number of exciting outings to the mainland and exchange visits with the DYW and WWW.
29/1/06 - A sunny, if chilly walk from Freshwater, taking in Headon Warren, The Needles and Tennyson Down. See the

9/1/06 - Updated the web site to give each walk a seperate page. The photos page was becoming a bit too big!
8/1/06 - Thirteen of us made the expedition to the mainland to meet our friends in the WWW and DYW for a walk around the slightly damp New Forest. See the thrilling

11/12/05 - Another stunningly fine day greeted a small group for the walk from
Shanklin to Niton. After some car ferrying, we enjoyed a pleasant and only slightly muddy walk along the tops of the downs to a meal at the Buddle in Niton.
7/12/05 - A brave group turned up for a very damp but highly enjoyable
Ghost walk around Newport followed by a drink in the Wheatsheaf.

30/10/05 - Another good turnout for our longest group walk so far, despite the dire weather forecast.
Ryde to Shanklin round the coast paths. Lovely views and excellent action from the White Air show. Even the weather held off with only a single heavy shower - we are indeed blessed.
27/10/05 - Committee meeting at the Bargemans in Newport to discuss the further program, and the ongoing saga of newsletters.
19/10/05 - Curry night in Arreton. Another well attended event (thanks to Nicola for organising) where most of us demonstrated the age old "eyes larger than stomach" adage. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the very nice curries and polite (!) conversation.
9/10/05 - Hilary lead a very well attended walk through
Parkhurst Forest to the coast and back. Again the sun shone on us for another very pleasant walk. Sudden influx of
photos from this walk!
18/9/05 - Tracey lead a short walk around
Alverstone taking in the Nature Reserve and Newchurch pub. May not be able to go back for a while as we got some funny looks and then sat on there Petanque pitch!
14/9/05 - Another committee meeting at the Steamer again. Filled in the events program for the winter season until next spring. Discussed futher recruitment possibilities.
28/8/05 - Sunny walk around the
southern tip of the island, led by Dave. Some new members came along to enjoy a very pleasant tour along the coast and up a couple of big hills. Hopefully we didn't scare them off!
21/8/05 - Dave and Spencer represented the group on the Ramblers stall at the Garlic Festival. A good show, with a good selection of visitors and some interest in the group.
12/8/05 - Nightime walk up Tennyson Down to watch the
Perseid meteor shower. Fun evening for the small but hardy band.
6-7/8/05 - Adinda, Dave and Tracey attended the Chale show as group reps on the Ramblers stall (once they managed to find it hidden in the wrong tent). Not much interest on Saturday until Tracey showed us how to do it on Sunday!
23/7/05 - Hillary and Gary were hidden in a corner of the County Show on the Ramblers stand. Gary claims he only saw 3 people all day, but that may have been the same person walking in circles.
2/7/05 - The DYW & WWW brought a healthy group of over 20 to the island to
explore West Wight. Unfortunately they brought the weather with them and it was misty and wet on top of Tennyson. They did get a hazy view of the Needles from a distance, but hopefully they'll be back to try again soon.
29/6/05 - Committee meeting at the Steamer in Shanklin. Further discussion of publicity including an article for the County Press and Isle of Wight Radio. Plans for the shows were finalised, including a handout pack. Future planned walks were fleshed out until October.
15/06/05 - The groups first evening walk around and about
Carisbrook castle was lead by Nicola. Details on the walks page.
6/06/05 - Committee meeting held at the Sloop in Wooton. Several subjects were discussed at length, including future walks and the advertising of the group, particularly at the upcoming island shows this summer.
5/05/05 - The groups first
outing to the mainland was attended by a hardy band of 7 who braved the ferry and weather for a very enjoyable walk in the New Forest. See the walks history for some details.

9/05/05 - First meeting to form the group. The name Wight Sole was chosen and a committee was elected.
