8/1/06 - Thirteen members braved the inclement weather and foreign lands, meeting the WWW and DYW at Brokenhurst station. After an increasingly chilly discussion in the car park (mostly centering around which group was to blame for the poor weather), someone foolishly mentioned toilets so we waited some more. Finally setting out east, then south passing Brockhurst Old Church and through the (slightly muddy) woods. Passing some expensive looking houses we all agreed we will never be able to afford, we stopped for a look at the stained glass window in the church. Shunning the shelter of the church we marched on to the furthest point of the walk for our lunch. Turning north, we squelched our way over increasingly damp land, leaping deer-like across streams. Promises that "there's worse mud ahead" were soon proved squishily accurate as we approached Dilton Farm, and we demonstrated admirable versatility resorting to traversing skills along a gate. No boots were lost in the making of this walk, but some were certainly nearly drowned. Continuing around Dilton, promises of no further mud were treated with deep suspicion, which was proved well founded as we continued north to the road, although by this point we were seasoned campaigners and were untroubled by such feeble mud. Finally attaining solid ground we made our way back along the road to Brokenhurst. Leaders - Julie & Suzanne (WWW) Total Distance - 8.1 Miles |
