8/7/06 - A slightly embarrassing turnout of 3 was luckily bolstered with the late arrival of Spencer, Alison & Archie to meet the 15 visitors from the mainland. Following the customary delay for a loo stop, we were treated to a lengthy demonstration of the swing bridge at Yarmouth. Finally on our way, we followed along the beach to Fort Victoria before climbing through the Park for a fine view over Hurst Point back to the mainland. Descending down to Colwell Bay, we stopped by the sandy beach for a lunch (and second loo) stop. On around Totland Bay (one lovely ice cream) over Headon Warren and onwards to Alum Bay for a look around the tourist traps (several expensive ice creams). Finally on to the main attraction at the Needles, with spectacular views from the rocket testing station in the glorious sunshine. After recovering from the shock of finally seeing the Needles we turned for home along West High & Tennyson Downs, pausing briefly at the monument to eat our last rations. Refreshed after another loo stop in Freshwater Bay, we headed north through the Afton Marsh nature reserve onto the cycle track for the trek back to Yarmouth arriving perfectly on time for the 6pm ferry.
