6/8/06 - A group of 14 walkers and 4 dogs met at Shanklin station on a sultry day for
a walk around Shanklin, Sandford and Wroxall, which was planned to be as
shady as possible to stay out of the sun.
We set off across the road into Lower Hyde Holiday Village and followed the
path through the site, down to Ninham Farm, past the ponds and along the
track towards Apse Heath. Some debate about where the path was at Apse New
Barn Farm before a decision was made - not by the leader! - and we were off
again, with Cherry at this point taking the short route home as she had
other plans.
Around by Princelett Shute and down to the ponds, then past Green Acres Farm
and on to Bobberstone Farm - there's a bit of a theme developing here!
Taking the group on some newly discovered paths we made our way round
through Froghill Farm and the back of Sandford to cross the main road and to
find our picnic stop in the shade of a couple of trees. Everyone was tired
as it was so hot, and after taking on food and lots of water it was a short
route back via Godshill Park Farm, Park Hill Farm, the Donkey Sanctuary and
then through to Winstone Farm and along the railway line back to the
station.
