Saturday 26/8/06

The start was from Ryde esplanade rail station with Alison, Martin, Ishbel (art teacher from Portsmouth area), Spencer and Archie. The small turnout probably due to the bank holiday and the length of walk approx 18 miles ?

We walked along Ryde esplanade to Seaview, then along Priory bay coastal path to Bembridge Duver, at the Pilot boat Inn we followed the footpath to Bembridge windmill and hence up to the Culver war memorial for a lunch break. After lunch we walked down to Yaverland and then followed the Sandown bay esplanade to Shanklin. At Shanklin Ishbel decided to take the train back to the mainland. The remaining group then followed the coastal path through Luccombe and hence the Bonchurch Landslip to arrive in Ventnor in time for the beginning of Cherry's party at 5:30pm. We left Cherry's house party at approximately 11:00pm for a well earned sleep !

Weather was OK but we had light rain in the Landslip.

The start was from Ventnor esplanade with Alison, Eleanor (intensive care nurse from Newport area), Ishbel, Spencer and Archie. This was Eleanor's first long distance walk and was intended as a practice for a trekking holiday in Nepal. We were later joined by Martin, Tracey, Bill, Lyn and Jan at lunchtime for most of the west wight section of this walk.

We walked along the undercliff coastal path via Steephill to St Lawrence. At St Lawrence we followed the footpath to the top of the St Lawrence cliffs for a short break. We then followed this cliff top footpath through Niton to Blackgang for a lunch break on the cliffs above the Blackgang theme park. After lunch we followed the coastal path along the entire west wight coast to arrive at Freshwater for 5:45pm. Many thanks to Trish and Tracey for kindly giving us all a lift home !
