26/8/07 - Meeting at the end of the walk and then sharing cars to Blackgang, we were finally ready for the off (after a quick ice cream). Leaving the busy car park behind, we headed down the hill, then along the road for a sprint across the roundabout dodging the middle aged bikers. Dipping off the road briefly before returning to pass through Chale and across the show ground finally to the coast. Following a brief photo shoot, we nipped back to the road around Whale Chine before more cliff edge progress to Atherfield point for lunch. While the wasps entertained Hilary, we were treated to some of Martin's finest jokes until we managed to stop him. Continuing on, we passed the first of many holiday camps (with some sneaky loo visits), and a mysterious whale seat before descending somewhat tentatively to Marsh Chine. Climbing steeply up, most of us were getting tired, but not Martin and Suzanne who couldn't resist the lure of the assault course (stewards enquiry still examining the photo finish). Finally to Isle of Wight Pearl for more ice creams and drinks, and impromptu stripping from Gary as he became a wasp magnet. Leader - Committee Total Distance - 7.4 Miles |
