7/10/07 - A group of five intrepid walkers, 3 members, and 2 prospective new members, set off from the Buddle Inn, Niton, to scale and traverse the Niton Fell, using the Coastal path route to St Lawrence. At St Lawrence Shute, we descended the fell to the road, and headed inland to Week Farm, which sits in the foothills of the Strenbury Ridge towering high above it. Walking through the fields at the base of Stenbury, we headed towards Nettlecombe, and Whitwell. Lunch was taken in the back garden of a members house, we enjoyed the hospitality, and the cider. After lunch our route took us into Slay Lane towards Stockbridge House, then through the fields to Bierley. We ascended Head Fell, and on to St Catherine's Pike, and St Catherine's Oratory aka the Pepperpot, our views marred by the low cloud. We descended Gore Fell to the Blackgang Viewpoint Car Park, then returned to Niton, via the cliff path. Leader - Alf Total Distance - 8.7 Miles Average Speed - 2.7 mph |
