21/10/07 - Nine walkers arrived optimistically for the 10 o'clock ferry and enjoyed a relaxing half hour break as the timetable had changed.
After a pleasant cruise and a quick bus ride, we met up with 6 mainlanders at the town station for a brief outline of the route.
We set off through the town passing the yachties and townies before reaching the sea wall for a small recharge.
Little did we know this was the cue for the start of the race to Keyhaven as Colin, Trish and Roger set off at a breakneck speed.
Dodging the twitchers and cyclists we continued apace past Eight Acre Pond, barely breaking step to head across Moses Dock and photograph an obliging egret.
Heading around Pennington Marshes we were unfortunately early for a meeting with another mainlander but had to continue on for a well earned break and lunch on the wall, where Julie finally caught us up!
Continuing back on the inland tracks, avoiding the late summer flies and weaving around Normandy Lane before returning to the town quay for ice creams and a little window shopping.
Back on to the bus and early ferry back to the island, barely containing our amazement at the miraculously sunny and dry expedition we had all had.
