28/9/08 - Seven Wightsole members met at the Jubilee Car Park for the start of the walk. Making our way up Mottistone Down, before turning to the Longstone. Bill had come prepared with bags to collect the numerous mushrooms growing on the downs.
From the Longstone we took the path through Mottistone Common, to the manor, then Ridget Lane to a field of weather damaged sweetcorn to the coastal path.
Along the path, which had some areas have large cracks in, Bill continued his mushroom picking, whilst others helped themselves to the blackberries.
We followed the path to brook, Hanover Point and Shippards Chine, where, a few hardy souls had BBQs on the beach. We continued on to Compton Chine, and left the coastal path to turn inland to Compton Farm. In the fields behind the farm we stopped for lunch, some nervously watching the cows, and trying to decide if there was a a bull amongst them - there was.
This path brought us to the bottom of Brook Down, climbing Pay Down and Mottistone Down, it was then downhill to the car park, but we had to avoid the numerous cyclists also using the trail.
