9/11/08 - Meeting at the Chequers Inn just outside Rookley, an ominous flock of rooks circled our brave band of 9 plus 2 dogs.
Setting off quickly to avoid the cold wind, we headed towards the darkening skies which soon deposited a heavy shower on to us as we sheltered behind a bush at Rookley Farm. As the lightening and thunder began we were all glad we had come out! However, it soon cleared up and we proceeded on towards the outskirts of Rookley where we had a slight detour up a steep hill, possibly due to leader error or maybe to keep us warm in the chilly conditions. Down across the vally bed, Tex was manhandled over another stile but seemed quite calm about it.
Heading uphill we turned into a strong breeze as we circled the field, and briefly considered a short cut before dismissing these thoughts of weakness. Down into the shelter of Ramsdown farm, we zig zagged our way back across the valley before reaching the stream again. Tex gave us a quick demonstration of his racing pedigree with a high speed sprint through the puddles for a few hundred metres.
Finally we were on to the road for a hundred yards back to the pub, just as another heavy shower came through.
